In a special event held in Gujranwala, Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, President of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC), along with Deputy Commissioner Naveed Ahmad and Sardar Mahesh Singh Dara, Vice President of PSGPC, attended the celebrations marking the 244th birth anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The ceremony was held at the historic Haveli of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, a significant cultural and heritage site for both Sikhs and the people of Pakistan.
During the event, a special cake-cutting ceremony was held to commemorate the birth of one of the most revered figures in Sikh history. The ceremony attracted members of the local Sikh community as well as notable figures from the Christian community, with everyone coming together to honor the legacy of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the founder of the Sikh Empire, is remembered for his leadership, vision, and contributions to the prosperity of the region. His reign is considered a golden period for Sikhs, and his legacy continues to be celebrated by communities in both Pakistan and India. The Haveli, which is closely associated with his life, remains an important symbol of his legacy.
At the event, Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs, Iftikhar Ahmad, also addressed the attendees and highlighted the importance of preserving the historical sites associated with Maharaja Ranjit Singh. He directed the Haveli administration to complete the ongoing renovation and beautification work by June 28 so that next year’s anniversary celebrations can be held in a well-restored and dignified setting.
The Minister emphasized that the government is committed to improving the facilities around the Haveli to ensure that it can accommodate a larger number of visitors and provide a fitting tribute to the memory of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
This occasion not only marked a significant historical remembrance but also highlighted the spirit of unity, with leaders from different communities coming together to honor the Sikh ruler. The local Sikh and Christian communities, along with government officials, expressed their shared commitment to preserving the rich cultural heritage of the region.
As preparations for the next year’s Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s birth anniversary continue, it is clear that the restoration and celebration of his legacy will remain a top priority for both the Sikh community and local authorities in Gujranwala.
